Follow-up to DDP ? re: kid who doesn't like kid food: Can you suggest quick service restaurants in Animal and Magic Kingdoms that have healthier kid options - like grilled chicken, pasta (not mac n cheese) - anything for kid who won't eat fast/fried food?

Meredith, thank you for returning to me with your question. I so enjoy hearing back from guests.

One of the best choices for sophisticated young eaters is Be Our Guest in the Magic Kingdom. Open as a counter service restaurant for lunch only, this new spot has amazing children's choices. Mahi mahi, meatloaf, carved turkey sandwich with sweet potato, and whole grain macaroni with marinara sauce create quite a menu of healthy choices. This restaurant is also open for dinner but transforms into a table service restaurant requiring reservations in the evening. The kid options for dinner are equally as healthy.

Other quick service places in the Magic Kingdom tend to have more limited entrees on the children's menu. A turkey sandwich is typically your best option in restaurants like Pecos Bill and Cosmic Ray's Starlight Cafe. In Disney's Animal Kingdom head to Flame Tree BBQ for a children's baked chicken drumstick or Restaurantosaurus for a kid turkey wrap.

Does your family want dessert at every meal? This might be a key question to help you decide if the Disney Dining Plan is for you. At each quick service and table service meal a sweet treat is part of the deal with a dining plan. Obviously you do not have to eat your cookie or cake, but if you rarely order dessert on vacation skipping the DDP might make more economic sense.

My family has vacationed with and without a dining plan at WDW. On longer trips the DDP seems to work out as a better deal for us. The meal entitlements allow us to experience signature restaurants we might otherwise be hesitant to try. Plus we love how so many table service meals give us the opportunity to sit down, catch our breath, and process our experiences as a family while enjoying wonderful food. On quick trips we prefer to hit the parks full on and eat according to our thrill ride schedule rather than by our reservation times as we do on trips with a slower pace.
