I have a five year old, can my husband ride down the water slide first and stay to catch her if I ride down after? She gets scared at the end when she goes under.

    Hi Andrea,

Technically, your daughter is supposed to be a strong enough swimmer to get from the bottom of the slide over to the edge of the pool by herself. They do have "swim vests" available for use at all of the pools, as well as the Water Parks. The lifeguards actually will tell your husband that he needs to move away from the bottom of the slide right away for safety reasons.

That being said, ever since my youngest was 4, she has followed my husband or I down the slide. She has been in swimming lessons since she was 2, so she is a pretty good swimmer. When I went down ahead of her, I would get out of the way, as requested by the lifeguard, but I wouldn't exit the pool right away. I'd linger just a few moments so she could see me and swim over to me on her own. If your daughter is concerned about going under, she isn't going to want to ride the slides. The little kids tend to zip along fairly quickly, and they will go under water at the bottom. She'll need to know that she has to swim over to you to be able to ride them. The swim vests may make her feel more comfortable about this.

Hope this helps and have a wonderful vacation,
