We our going on our first WDW vacation mid August. I have 2 kids 5 and 3. We have booked our character dinings but am wondering if there are any must sees and anything that is not appropriate for that age. We will be there for 9 days.

My kids are almost the exact same age as yours--2.5 & 5 year old!

My 5yo is quite fearful of the characters. She loves them from afar but does NOT want them near her. So, we spent a good amount of our time ignoring meet & greets and anything where a costume character might come within walking distance. So, no character dining for us. I made a fatal mistake of booking the 1900 Park Fare breakfast assuming only face characters like Mary Poppins, Alice & the Mad Hatter would be there. But Tigger & Pooh joined this meal & my daughter would not take her head out of my lap. But the cast members were so helpful--they stationed the person in charge of the characters at my table & led Tigger & Pooh away when they got to our table. Not to mention, the characters saw her fear immediately & jumped away as fast as they could. I say that to say--if you get in a situation you feel is too hard or scary for your child, cast members will go out of their way to help you.

As far as other attractions--I think Fantasmic can be a little too much for little kids. It has lots of fire, scary music & huge (HUGE) villains. It's Tough To Be a Bug in AK has quite a bit of darkness and surprises. We have 2 books that are helpful in this area: The Complete Walt Disney World Guide has a list of all attractions that may have anything too intense for kids. Brinbaum's Walt Disney World for Kids also has info on dark rides, loud music, etc. to help kids judge if they want to go on an attraction.

Now the must-sees? Oh, there are too many to name! But here are my kids' faves in each park: Magic Kingdom: Mad Tea Party, Country Bears & Small World
Epcot: Gran Fiesta Tour, Spaceship Earth & the Seas With Nemo & Friends
Hollywood Studios: Disney Junior LIVE, Muppets 3D
Animal Kingdom: Kilimanjaro Safari, Boneyard, Finding Nemo
