First WDW vacation, well at least since I was 9. Taking my 7yr old princess to WDW for a week over Christmas (just the two of us). Just purchased Unofficial guide. I am overwhelmed!!!! Any advice on what's what over the Christmas holiday at WDW?

Hi Mary!  How fun for you and your little princess to visit WDW at the absolute most magical time there when Disney is truly dressed in its best.  You should probably be prepared for pretty big crowds since this is the busiest time of the year for WDW, but we have visited many, many times between Christmas and New Year's Eve.

Our strategy to avoid crowds is to take advantage of Extra Magic Hours in the morning (especially for Fantasyland at the MK), but then we'd move to another park by mid-morning.  We avoid evening Extra Magic Hours since the crowds are usually pretty big.

We also use Fast Passes!  As we arrive in the parks, we try to get a set of Fast Passes ASAP for a high demand ride (like Soarin at Epcot, Toy Story Mania at DHS, Kiliminjaro Safari at AK, etc) and then go and ride some other rides while the crowds are still small.  Once the park has opened for other guests, the time to ride our ride has usually arrived; but before going on the ride, we get another set of Fast Passes.

If you'd like to eat at some table service restaurants, I'd also encourage you to get your dining reservations ASAP since guests have already begun making them.  I'm hopeful that since you are a party of 2 that you will be lucky when you call!

Do consider visiting the Grand Floridian (a short monorail or boat ride from the MK) to see its breath-taking decorations and life-size gingerbread house.  Taking a detour in the day to visit a resort or return to yours for a break can also make a huge difference in avoiding the "grumpies."

Finally, here is a link to some of the special Christmas events at WDW.  Do make sure to take the time to visit the lights at Disney's Hollywood Studios.  It will actually snow when you visit!
