Hi. This is our first trip to WDW with my 2 year old son. Everyone says we have to do Character Dining. We are willing to do 2-3, if available. Anyways, what is the best for his age? I've heard the Crystal Palace is a must. Please help.

    Hi Mary Anne,

Some of my kids' favorite character meals when they were toddlers included:

    • Play n' Dine at Hollywood and Vine at Disney's Hollywood Studios - here your son's pals from Playhouse Disney, including some of the Little Einsteins along with Cast Members put on a great show that includes many Playhouse Disney songs (like "Hot Dog" from Mickey Mouse Club House!)
    • Crystal Palace is a great choice if you are at the Magic Kingdom and your son loves Winnie the Pooh and Friends.  It is in beautiful glass-atrium.
    • Cape May Buffet at the Beach Club is a good choice if you are off to Epcot, as you can walk from the resort to the back entrance of the park.  Minnie and Friends are all decked out in beach ware and visit while you dine on a great breakfast.
    • Chef Mickey's is probably the most popular and "the" quintessential character meal on property.  If your son wants to see Mickey, this is the place to go.  It's also a great choice if you will be going to the Magic Kingdom, as you can either walk (5-8 minutes) or hop on the monorail.

If you think your son will enjoy seeing the characters (some little ones are a bit fearful, but most love it), I think the buffet character meals are a great addition to your vacation itinerary.  Be sure to make advanced dining reservations as early as 90 days before your arrival to reserve your table.  Have a wonderful trip!
