First trip to WDW with twin boys age 5, planning to stay at Animal Kingdom lodge. Realize this hotel is further away...is their a better place to stay that will be fun for energetic twin boys?

    Hi Lisa:

My family, which includes two rambunctious young boys, loves the Animal Kingdom Lodge. While I'm partial to the benefits and amenities of the Animal Kingdom Lodge, such as the savanna views, the fine dining, and the unique kid and family activities, the resort is sliiiightly further away from three of the parks than many other Disney properties. That being said, for me, the benefits of the AKL outweigh the extra minutes we may spend on the bus. Also, at any Disney resort, you'll need to factor in some commuting time for at least a couple of parks if you intend to visit all four major Disney World theme parks.

Upon entering the Animal Kingdom Lodge, your family will be mesmerized by the dramatic lobby expertly themed and filled with African artwork, artifacts, a fireplace (at Jambo House), and huge windows. The pools are great at Animal Kingdom Lodge. AKL Jambo House is home to the 11,000 square foot Uzima pool. The pool boasts a 67-foot slide as well as a tyke-friendly wading pool area. Not far away is a kids playground. There is also Pumbaa's Fun and Games Arcade. AKL Kidani Village is home to the wonderful Samawati Springs pool and kids water playground.

As you check in, request an activity guide from the front desk for a schedule of organized activities. Although subject to change, we found the following programs, among many others, available during our last stay at AKL Jambo House: ceramics, cookie decorating, face painting, animal tracking, pin trading, African folktale storytelling, and trivia (similar activities are available at AKL Kidani Village). The general age range for most activities varies from 4-12 years old, although everybody is invited to join in the fun.

Of course, there are other fun hotels such as the Contemporary, Beach Club Resort, and Wilderness Lodge. Wherever you choose, enjoy your vacation.
