This will be our first trip to WDW as a family with small children. My older daughter is 2 almost 3 at the time of the trip and the baby will be 8 months. We are also traveling with grandma. Any tips on making sure everyone has a good time?

    Hi Christina!

I visited Walt Disney World with little ones and grandma much like you will be doing soon. I think it's good to go at the kids pace, which means slowing down and enjoying the little things that young kids are so good at noticing, even if it means you won't get to every attraction.

You'll find that the normal things you think of at home apply at Disney World, too. For example, keeping their schedules to what their used to at home, like napping and feeding times, will help keep them happy.

In addition, here are a few tips:
    • Bring a few snacks and keep water on hand for them.
    • Disney transportation is convenient and free, but if you have a car of your own while on your visit, it's sometimes better to be on your schedule rather than the resort buses schedule!
    • Have the camera ready. Those moments in between posed photos make for great memories you'll want to capture, too!
    • Character dining is awesome. You get to slow down, have a delicious meal, and see some favorite characters. While the kids might not remember, you will remember how much they enjoyed it!
    • If you know your children do not like the loud noises from the fireworks, you'll want to find someplace to be before they start because once they do, lights go dim and people in the parks are looking up in the sky while you try to navigate your stroller around them.
    • Bring your own stroller if possible, especially for the little one. Napping in the Disney strollers available for rent is not the most comfortable option for an infant.
    • Baby care centers are available at each of the parks, and are not only air conditioned, but they also have feeding rooms, nursing rooms, places to watch tv, and changing stations, among other things.

Finally, enjoy your magical vacation! The first family trip to Walt Disney World will be one that you always remember.
