First timers here planning to go to WDW in Sept with 2 boys with high functioning autism(4&6). how long of a stay do you recommend? we're leaning towards the AOA but don't know if the suite or the little mermaid room would be best?

    Hi Keliane,

Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel. I can imagine the excitement in your household about this first trip to the Walt Disney World Resort! I would suggest that you stay for a week during your first visit. Doing so will give you time to enjoy all four theme parks and time at the resort.

Art of Animation is a beautifully themed resort! Whether or not you reserve a suite or a Little Mermaid room really depends on your budget. The suite comes with a kitchenette and two bathrooms. I would suggest that you check out the photos of the rooms especially if your boys have sensory issues. The decor is bright, bold, and busy.

Be sure to make Dining Reservations up to 180 days in advance. Our family loves Character Meals with our favorite friends like Mickey and Minnie Mouse at Chef Mickey's. Be aware, however, that many character meals are buffet style and can get fairly hectic.

At 60 days prior to your trip, you can also book Fast Pass+ reservations. Doing so will allow you to reserve up to three rides or attractions per day. Finally, be sure to review the Services for Guests with Disabilities. In particular, your boys might benefit from having Disability Access Service. This service allows you to reserve additional ride times while at the theme parks so that you can limit wait time. You will just need to register when you arrive.

    I hope this helps!
