Hi, As a first time visitor to Disney, I'm wondering if there advantages to staying on property vs staying off property?

    Hi Shandi!
I think you are in for a real treat heading down for your first Disney trip! I am actually sitting here excited for you and I'm not even going. Simply remembering my first trip as a child is such a cool, and still vivid, memory!
There are many advantages to staying at a Disney resort on property and Disney has done such a nice job of offering a wide array of accomodation types to fit just about any and every budget. First and foremost is the thrill of staying in the midst of all of the Magic. Each Disney resort is incredibly well themed and keeps you in the spirit for your entire trip, no matter which one you stay at. You can also take advantage of free Disney transportation all around "the World", be it bus, ferry or monorail. Resort guests even get free parking at the theme parks should you have a rental car and prefer to drive to the parks. And let's not forget Extra Magic Hours which allows resort guests extra time in the parks up to one hour before regular park openings or up to three hours later.
You can also look into the possibility of purchasing a Disney Dining Plan that fits the needs of your family should you want to pre-plan and budget for your meals.
Although staying on Disney property is not a pre-requisite to having an amazing vacation, it just seems to add that extra little bit of pixie dust to your visit.
I wish you a Magical, memorable first trip, Shandi!! :)
