    Amanda Asked

This is the first time I'll be traveling with my new ostomy. I'm really worried if I have problems, is there a place I might be able to change my bag? If I can't stand the whole the time, should we rent a wheelchair? Are there any kind of accommodations?

Hi, Amanda! Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel. I hope I can ease your mind by letting you know that there are companion restrooms located throughout the theme parks where you would have complete privacy. These restrooms are clearly marked on the Park Guide Maps, so be sure to pick up a copy at the entrance to each park. There are also handicapped bathroom stalls in the regular restrooms. In both the companion restrooms and handicapped stalls there would be enough room for a second person if you are traveling with a family member or friend who will assist you.

Since there is a lot of ground to cover in the parks, you may want to consider renting a manual wheelchair or electric scooter (also called an electric conveyance vehicle, or ECV) for at least part of your stay. You may need a break from standing or walking, particularly if you plan to spend the whole day in the parks. Wheelchairs and ECVs are available for daily rentals on a first-come, first-served basis at the park entrances or for your entire length of stay from a local private rental company. Also, if you'll be bringing a backpack or other type of bag to carry extra supplies, using a wheelchair or electric scooter may be more convenient. You can click on these links for more information on wheelchair rentals and electric conveyance vehicle (EVC) rentals.

I would also suggest stopping by Guest Services at the first park you visit to request a Guest Assistance Card. This card will alert Cast Members at each attraction to the type of accommodations you may need.

Wishing you a magical vacation, Amanda! Please don't hesitate to write me back with any additional questions as you plan your trip. I'd be happy to help!
