I am a first time Grand Floridian visitor this June, 2008. We want to be near the beach and monorail. The Big Pine Key would be great but is it a smoking only building. As another option do you suggest a dormer room in the main bldg for a landscape view

    Stick with Big Pine Key!

There are no more smoking buildings and/or rooms at Walt Disney World hotels. As of June 1, 2007 all rooms remain smoke-free and this policy extends to patios/balconies as well. All rooms underwent a deep cleaning and should be acceptable for non-smokers.

The main building of the Grand Floridian is also a lovely area to stay. However, I almost prefer having to walk to one of the other buildings because it’s such a beautiful stroll. At night, the lights glisten over the pool and you feel as if you’ve stepped back to a bygone era.

I have stayed in a dormer room in the Big Pine Key building. These rooms lack day beds and are a bit smaller than the other standard rooms. However, they are extremely charming. The cathedral ceiling and cozy layout makes the room look less like a hotel and more like a Victorian cottage. Even our son thought it was really special. These rooms have enclosed balconies so you will only be able to enjoy the view while standing at the railing.

We will be returning to one of our favorite resorts, The Grand Floridian, this June. Hope to see you there!
