Hello, its our first time going to Disney and it looks like its going to be raining this weekend. does anyone know if the park is still open during thunderstorms? are tickets refundable? are there still parades and fireworks? are rides still open?

Welcome to Disney Parks Moms Panel, Tabitha!

You must be so excited for your very first trip to Walt Disney World! I am so excited FOR you!

Your trip will surely be magical no matter what the weather, so know that your days and nights will fun even if a little rain joins you.

We have toured WDW parks in just about any kind of weather, so a few tips will help you know what to expect. First, all parks remain open during inclement weather, with minimal disruption to most activities throughout the day. Attractions are open, as many are indoors, and you may find that a little rain may keep crowd levels down just a bit. (Those who have the option of going that week or a week or two later, when there is no threat of rain, often opt to visit when the skies are clear. Not a bad thing for the rest of us!)

There are durable rain ponchos and umbrellas available throughout the parks and Disney Springs, so if all looked well when you set out for the day, but rain arrived while you are still touring, just purchase a poncho and enjoy your day.

When walking through the parks on rainy days, I wear shoes that are still comfortable when wet (Crocs sandals are comfy and dry quickly); I don a baseball cap to keep the rain off of my face and tuck my drawstring bag under my poncho, ready for the day.

Depending on the amount of rain, parades and fireworks may or may not go on as planned. However, because conditions change rapidly, it's best to be in the park just in case. If the skies clear just enough--even with a little light drizzle--you may get to enjoy them both.

In short, Walt Disney World is a magical place, both in sunshine and in rain. Plan for some soggy days and, if the skies clear, it's even better!

Send more questions as you think of them, Tabitha; we love to help!
