Hi! This is our first time to disney. We will be celebrating our son's 12th birthday, staying on site and got park-hopper tickets. Any suggestion would be helpful. Thanks

    Hi Pam!

You've picked a wonderful place for a family vacation and staying on site means you will always be surrounded by the magic!

Have you ordered the free Walt Disney World planning DVD?  It's a good place to start. I also recommend picking up the book "The Complete Walt Disney World" by Julie and Mike Neal. There are a lot of good tour books out there, but I especially like this for first timers as it is packed with photos and some good tips; the photos help to get everybody excited for the trip and give a glimpse of all of the wonderful things to do inside and outside of the theme parks.  If you want more detailed tips and information after reading that book, then I suggest getting 'The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World", co-authored by Len Testa.  They have a great independent website at TouringPlans.com.  They have a lot of information, including how to minimize your wait in lines by using one of their touring plans.

One of the biggest mistakes a first timer sometimes makes is not making dining reservations.  Advanced Dining Reservations (ADRs) can be critical if you want to dine in a Table Service (full service) restaurant.  You may make on-line reservations here.  ADRs are allowed up to 180 days in advance.  There are several restaurants with characters at various meals.  My favorite is Chef Mickey's in the Contemporary Resort.   Mickey Mouse and friends are available for both breakfast and dinner.  You may think that your son is too old, but my oldest turns 12 in June and he still loves them.  He just doesn't want to get his picture with a character unless the whole family is in it!

Write back if you have any more questions!
