What is the first step in planning a Disney World vaction? What time of the year is the best time to go? What is the difference between Disney World and Disney Land? Tracey

Disneyland is in California. It includes two theme parks, a shopping area, and several hotels. Disney World is in Florida. It includes four theme parks, two water parks, two shopping/entertainment areas, more than 20 hotels, a sports complex, and more. The focus of this Panel is Walt Disney World.

The best time to visit WDW depends on your priorities. If you look at the Frequently Asked Questions HERE, you'll find dates when the parks are least crowded - something you may want to consider. Another factor is the weather. If you want moderate temperatures and less rain, the winners are October, November, March and April. Other people find WDW most enjoyable during special times like Christmas. Based on those factors, you'll have to decide the right time for you.

To me, getting started means three things: get informed, set a budget, choose travel dates.

    - Get several Disney guide books and really read them. Different books have different perspectives, get more than one. Click HERE for ideas.
    - Look at your personal finances and decide how much you can spend on your vacation. This will influence every other choice you make.
    - Based on your schedule (work, school calendar, etc.), your budget (value season is MUCH less expensive than holiday season), and your vacation priorities discussed above (weather, crowd patterns) choose when you want to travel.

When you have this worked out you'll think about accommodations, transportation, dining, and a host of other topics, but this will get you started. You can find the answer to a related question HERE.
