This is our first Disney vacation. We have two kids ages 5 & 8 at time of travel. How much should I save up for souvenirs and food? We are going to attend for 4 days. How much much should I save up for a family of four bascially?

    Hi, Savannah!

You can find most Walt Disney World restaurant menus online. Seeing what is offered in advance not only helps me budget, I can also decide on the best places for my family to eat based on their food preferences. Keep in mind pricing and menu options are subject to change, but this can give you a great idea of how much you will need to save. Another budget friendly option you may want to look into if you are staying at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel is the Disney Dining Plan. For one flat cost you are entitled to a specific amount of snack, Table-Service and / or Counter-Service credits. There are different plans to meet your family's needs and budget. For one flat cost, you can dine without stress!

You will also want to budget for gratuities during your visit. If you are dining at any Table-Service restaurants, you will need tips for your servers. Also, if you receive any assistance from Bell Services you may want to tip them for their help. You can also leave a bit for Mousekeeping for their hospitality.

There are so many amazing souvenirs for purchase in the many Walt Disney World shops including Mouse Ears, trading pins, stuffed characters, apparel, glass slippers, turkey leg magnets - I can't even begin to touch on the variety of items available! I find it best to set a budget of how much you would like to spend on souvenirs and bring that amount with you. We set a spending limit for our boys and purchase a Disney Gift card for each of them at our local Disney Store or Target before our trip. This way they know exactly how much they have to spend, and can keep track of how much they have left as the card balance prints right on their receipts. They also make smarter purchasing decisions when they are in control. My boys are now 8 and 11 and we have been doing this since they were toddlers, and I plan on continuing this into their teens.

    Have a magical day!

Hi, I’m Rachel! I am a “boy mom” to two rowdy little men at home and married to my high school sweetheart. I am fortunate enough that my prince charming loves all things Disney just as much as I do! For me, planning a trip to Walt Disney World can be just as magical as being there. It brings our family together as we dream, plan, and count down the days. I would be honored to help plan your visit and share in your family’s very own magic! Learn More About Rachel
