We are going on our first Disney Cruise over New Year's (in just about 10 days). On the cruise, do you get a magic band like in the park as your room key, to make purchases, etc? Trying to figure out if we need something to carry documents on the ship.

Welcome aboard, Rachel! What a magical way to ring in the New Year! Spending New Year's Eve and day at sea with Disney Cruise Line is going to be such a great way to celebrate! You're in for all sorts of fun for everyone in your family, as Disney truly offers something for everyone. Plus, you'll have even more excitement with the New Year's Eve festivities onboard!

Disney Cruise Line doesn't currently utilize the Magic Bands that are used at the Walt Disney World Resort. You may have seen some pictures of kids wearing what looks like a Magic Band onboard, and perhaps that caused the confusion. Children in the Oceaneer Club and Oceaneer Lab do receive an Oceaneer Band to wear throughout the sailing, and it looks just like a Magic Band. This is used to scan them in and out of the clubs.

All guests will receive a Key To The World Card which acts as the room key, charge card to a guest's stateroom account, photo link, and a way of identifying guests as they check on and off the ship. If you don't want to carry a purse around, you might consider getting a lanyard with a plastic card holder attached. They do sell these onboard, but if you want one prior, check out ShopDisney.com or your local Disney Store to pick up a fun Disney-themed lanyard! Guests who have sailed with Disney before (Castaway Club members) will receive a lanyard based on their membership level as they check in at the port, but since this is your first cruise, you may want to purchase one for yourself and each of your family members.

Have so much fun on this exciting vacation with Captain Mickey and his crew, Rachel!
