Do you find it is less expensive to rent a condo, or stay outside the part...vs...staying in disney? My son has a brain tumor and really wants to go. We are looking at every avenue to go on a budget and still afford all the fun things for him.

Hi, Celiaann!  By staying of property, you can certainly get more for your money if you are looking for a larger room or suite.  You will be able to find a unit with multiple bedrooms and full kitchen for much less than you would pay for a comparable room on Disney property.

However, if you just want a basic hotel room, I think that in the long run, you will find staying at a Disney Resort is more economical, and actually easier than staying off property.  You will save in several ways:  For one, Disney provides free airport transportation (to and from Orlando airport) via Disney's Magical Express.  Another way you will save is FREE  transportation around property - to theme parks, water parks, and Downtown Disney so there is no need for a rental car.  (And what a nice vacation for the parents - leave the driving to someone else!)

If you decide to stay off property, check with your resort for any "hidden" fees:   resort fees, daily parking fees, if transportation is provided to parks, etc.  Also, if you drive to the theme parks, there is a parking fee of about $14 per day (subject to change) for guests NOT staying on Disney property.

You will have to do the math and see what will be best for you, but check out the great Value Resorts at Disney, hopefully this will suit your needs! Also look for Special Offers.

Finally, I am sorry to hear your son has some health problems.   If it will ease your trip at all, make sure to stop at Guest Services for a Guest Assistance Card that will help shorten your wait times.  Good luck to you and your family as you plan for your WDW vacation!
