Christmas at resorts

How can I find out when the giant Christmas Tree will be erected in the lobby of the Grand Floridian. My family and I want to be there and watch it being set up. Thanks....

Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel, Keith!

The holiday magic that’s in the air all around Walt Disney World Resort during the Christmas season is so special, and it’s absolutely my favorite time of year to visit. Nobody decks the halls like Disney, and Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa is just majestic when the tree is trimmed, the lobby smells incredible, and the life-sized gingerbread house is baked and built.

My family stayed at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa the first week of November last year, and we were lucky enough to watch their epic gingerbread house going up throughout the week – we even got to meet the pastry artists and taste samples as the shingles were added to the roof. We had so much fun checking on the construction each day and looking at all the amazing details as they were added to the house. I love that you’re planning a similar trip so your family can watch the Christmas tree go up!

Keith, I checked in with a Cast Member, who consulted the resort schedule for us. At this time, they don’t have a set date for the tree trimming. It usually goes up in the third week of November, usually before Thanksgiving, but the Cast Member I spoke with said it could be as late as early December. Her advice was to check in as we get closer to the holidays, as they may have more information then. You may contact the resort directly, and another good source of information is the Disney Parks Blog, which spreads lots of holiday cheer as we get into October and November.

When you’re visiting, be sure to stop by Disney Springs and take a walk along their Christmas Tree Trail. Not only can you see dozens of trees decorated in Disney style (I LOVED the monorail tree last year), but there are treats, hot toddies, and you can meet Santa along the way. If you love Christmas trees, you won’t want to miss this!

Wishing you a merry and magical vacation,
    Robyn
