Is it financially better or does one get better perks if we go through a travel agency (ie AAA) or is it just as good to book through WDW?

    Hi, Cheryl!

    This is a great question!

We've booked both directly through Walt Disney World as well as used a Travel Agent, and have found that there are benefits to either method.

Some agents may be able to secure a discount due to the volume of bookings they have with WDW. Thus, benefits may include a lower rate, a nice gift delivered to your room or a perk such as the one AAA organizes for Guests who have booked a WDW vacation package through AAA. (Those Guests are entitled to a wonderful Character experience entitled AAA Storytime Experience; a suprise Disney character reads a story to children and then is available for autographs and photo ops. My family loved this experience this past July.)

On the other hand, we've often booked a vacation in the late night or early morning hours, straight on the WDW site. I love being able to access my reservation, make changes, arrange for Magical Express, etc., on my own schedule, often at odd times of the day or night. I like window-shopping my package options online as well, since this also allows me to compare rates from Travel Agencies with what I'd be getting if I had booked directly through Walt Disney World.

In short, I suggest that you contact several Travel Agencies and ask for a quote on specific dates, then follow up with the question you've asked here. You may be offered a discount, perk or benefit you wouldn't have known about otherwise, so you may have been comparing apples to oranges without that call. Next, contact WDW directly and ask for a quote as well, for comparison. At that point, you'll have enough information to determine whether or not a particular offer is better than another.

Send more questions as you plan your trip! I'd love to help!
