A few years ago my family visited WDW in April and then our Brother in law and his family visited the same year in October and spent half of what we did. Is it a general rule of thumb that Oct is a cheaper time of year to go? We want to go in Oct 2010.

    Hi Dawn,

October is a great time to visit Walt Disney World.  The rates are among the lowest of the year, the weather is comfortable, and the crowds are fairly light.  There are also some great deals to be had.  Was your brother able to take advantage of the free dining offer?  If so, that added a HUGE savings to his vacation.

There are some other ways to keep costs down.  Obviously, choosing a value resort over deluxe accommodations will save you hundreds of dollars.  If you've never stayed in a value resort, they are very well themed, and even though you don't have the same convenience or amenities that you'll find in the pricier resorts, they are still a lot of fun.

Also, consider sticking to a Magic Your Way base ticket when purchasing your park passes.  Although it's nice to have the park hopper option, you can rack up a huge savings by only going to one park each day.

With the extra money that you save on your next vacation, I will suggest one splurge.  Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party is a fun activity for the entire family.  You'll have the opportunity to trick-or-treat, meet your favorite characters, ride attractions with little wait time, see the Halloween parade and fireworks, and so much more!

Hope this helps.  Have fun planning!
