How far ahead of time can I start making a reservation? We are planning on visiting next October and would like to get all my planning done as soon as possible. Does anyone know when those rates would be available?

    Hi Luanne,

Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel!  You are speaking my language.  I love planning ahead...the sooner, the better...so I completely understand!

Get ready to start your official planning, because you'll be able to do that very soon.  Room-only reservations are accepted up to 499 days in advance, calculated from your check-out date.  Just call (407) W-DISNEY (934-7639) to choose your Disney Resort hotel and room type, pay your deposit, and you'll be able to get your reservation confirmed.  Next year's rates won't be available yet, but you'll have at least one thing marked off your planning checklist!  When the new year's pricing becomes available later this summer (usually around July or August), just call that number again to confirm rates and payment deadlines. You can also convert your room-only reservation to a package then by adding on magical extras, like theme park tickets, the Disney Dining Plan and Memory Maker.

If you know the dates in October that you're planning to travel, there is a handy-dandy calculator for finding out that 499-day mark on the independent website www.pscalculator.net (look for the link to the "PS Calculator" in the top left).

Also, as you make your plans, you won't want to miss the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival and Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party.  These are two of my very favorite events at Walt Disney World all year, so I love being able to visit in October when both are in full-swing.

Wishing you pixie-dusted planning, Luanne!  Please visit us here again if we can help answer any other questions.

    Have a Disney day!
