This is my family's first trip together to Disney. My daughter is 6, my twin boys are 4. We are going memorial day weekend for the week staying at the polynesian. Any advice you can give for visiting with young children would be appreciated.

    Hi Christy,

When experiencing Walt Disney World with small children it's very important to make the most of early morning hours when the temperatures and attraction lines are low and your kids are well-rested.  Arrive at the theme park of your choice a few minutes before opening time each day.  You'll be able to visit many attractions quickly at this time of day.

If your kids typically nap, keep them on their normal schedule.  Everyone will enjoy Walt Disney World more if they are well-rested.  Enjoy some time back at your Disney resort mid-day to avoid the theme parks' longest lines and highest temperatures.  As a guest of Disney's Polynesian Resort, all you need to do it hop on the monorail or a boat to get back to your home resort quickly.  Take advantage of the lovely pools at your home resort and then your family can return to the parks in the evening to enjoy more of the magic.

Over holiday weekends, in particular, you will likely encounter some long lines for attractions.  It's a good idea to have some simple snacks on hand in case your little ones get hungry.  You don't want to have to get out of line to track down a snack.  Also, plan to play some fun or simple games to keep their minds off waiting.  Sometimes we play "I spy" in attraction lines.  Others let their kids bring small electronic games to play during the wait.

And definitely make time to meet the Disney characters during your vacation.  Character dining experiences are a fabulous place to spend time with your favorite characters.  Consider calling (407) WDW-DINE to make advance dining reservations at one of these charming restaurants.

Get ready for the vacation of a lifetime, Christy!  I hope your trip brings you the most magical family memories.
