Mom and daughter on Expedition Everest

My family will be at WDW from 11/17/08 to 11/24/08 and would like to tour the various WDW resorts. Do the resorts have the Christmas decorations up at this time of year? And is there a "theme" to Christmas at the different resorts?

Historically the holiday decorations at the WDW resorts have started to go up around Veteran's Day with an eye to completion by Thanksgiving. This year Veteran's Day is November 11 and Thanksgiving is November 27, so you'll be able to watch the transformation happen. (Although rumor has it that the hotels are decorated by elves since most of the major decorating happens at night.) By the end of your stay, the vast majority of the holiday finery will be out in the parks and resorts, so I would save your resort tour for the last few days of your visit.

As to your second question, the holiday decorations at each hotel are coordinated with the themeing of that hotel. For example, the Grand Floridian has Victorian styling. The showpiece of their decorations is a giant Victorian gingerbread house which is assembled in the lobby. At the Wilderness Lodge, the massive Christmas tree is festooned with artifacts symbolizing the American northwest. The seaside theme of the Beach Club is accented with a large gingerbread carousel in the lobby. The list goes on and on. I'm sure you'll have a wonderful exploring the work of the Disney elves.
