Mom and daughter on Expedition Everest

Our family will be at WDW in October 2012 and we are considering buying tickets for Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween party. We have a 9 and 4 year old. Is it really "not so scary?" They are frightened by scary costumes.

The overall tone of the event is definitely not so scary, Pamela.  The decor and music is light-hearted and playful.  That said, it's important to note that during the party you might see other guests dressed in scary costumes (think along the lines of witches or vampires).  Also, Disney's villains will be out in full force, but you really have to go out of your way to see them.

The parade does have some scary characters that your family might recognize from the Haunted Mansion attraction.  The villains also are featured in the parade.  The fireworks show is narrated by a scary sounding voice and parts of it could be frightening for young children, especially if they have a front row seat to the lighting effects projected onto Cinderella Castle.   You might opt instead to view the fireworks from the end of Main Street.

Honestly, though, it's not a scary event.  We've been attending the parties for years and none of my children have ever been frightened during the festivities.  That said, you might want to check out the parade and fireworks on YouTube to see if you think your kiddos would be okay.
