Our family of 6 is going to WDW at the end of July and bought the dining plan. Menus show very little non-bread and non-processed food choices for kids. Any suggestions? Can they get a smaller portion of the adult salads/fish for example?

Hi, Angelina!  I used to HATE to have my kids dine at theme parks!  The food we were able to purchase for them was food we rarely allowed them to eat at home - fried nuggets or burgers, processed hot dogs, fatty mac and cheese.  This is definitely not the case at Walt Disney World.

If you are planning table service meals, virtually all of the restaurants offer "Mickey Check" meals.  These meals are on the heatthier side of kid friendly cuisine.  You'll find offerings that include fresh salads, delicious soups, turkey meatloaf, grilled chicken, and broiled fish.  Desserts offered also usually include the option of a fresh fruit cup or, in some cases, a yogurt parfait.  You will even find some vegetarian meals offered on children's menus at some of the restaurants.

Quick service meals for kids will also give you some variety.  Turkey wraps, caesar salads, baked chicken drumsticks, and even vegetarian sandwiches.  You may not find as many "junk food" alternatives as you would on an adult menu, but you can ask at any location for suggestions due to dietary concerns.

Sunshine Seasons at EPCOT has Mongolian Beef and grapes on the menu.  The ABC Commissary at Disney's Hollywood Studios has a power pack lunch, which includes items such as yogurt, apples, and carrots.  Be Our Guest at lunch offers seared mahi mahi or slow roasted pork on their kids' menus.  I also find that the restaurants that serve more ethnic cuisine usually have healthy options my kids will enjoy.

I hope your family has a great time eating your way around the world!
