My family will be visiting WDW next month, but we will not be staying on property. Is it worth buying Magic Bands just for the ticket & FP+? And is linking my tickets on My Disney Experience all I need to do to make them work?

    Hi Wendi,

Thank you so much for visiting the Disney Parks Moms Panel with your question. I am happy to help you with your question about MagicBands and Cards!

As a guest not staying at a Walt Disney World resort hotel, you will not receive MagicBands included with your vacation. Instead, for your ticket, you will receive a card, about the size of a credit card and plastic like a credit card. The card will work as your theme park ticket for admission, and for your Disney FastPass+ selections.

On a trip that I took this summer, we traveled with another couple. They were not staying at a Walt Disney World resort hotel, and as such, did not get MagicBands. They were perfectly happy with the cards. It did mean that as we approached any attraction for which we had Disney FastPass+ selections, they needed to dig in their wallets to get their cards. As long as this does not bother you, the cards are just fine. I should mention that our traveling partners were adults, so they were pleased with the cards. If you have a child, they might really want a MagicBand, and they do make nice souvenirs as well.

Also, you are correct that you need to link your tickets to your My Disney Experience account. Once you have done that, your theme park tickets as well as your Disney FastPass+ selections will be linked to your card for use at Walt Disney World. If you decide to purchase MagicBands, you can link those to your My Disney Experience account as well.

I hope that these thoughts are helpful for you, Wendi! Have a great time planning your magical vacation, and please do let us know if you have any further questions.
