Hello, My family is going to be visiting Walt Disney World, I have a 5yrs old boy and a 3yr old girl. My boy is on the autism spectrum.. He get a bit nervous new things. I wanted to things that I can do with him there to make him more comfortable.

    Hi Reba,

Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel! I am delighted that you are bringing your children to visit the Walt Disney World Resort! I have it on good authority that everyone will be tickled to see you!

I first suggest that you review the Planning Guide for Guests with Cognitive Disabilities. It includes some information for guests on the autism spectrum. Then use all of the pre-planning tools available to minimize your wait time in lines. Make advanced dining reservations, especially for character meals. Make Fast Pass+ selections 60 days in advance if staying at a Walt Disney World Resort.

Since your son gets a little nervous in new situations, I recommend that you find videos online of some of the rides and attractions and let him watch those before your visit. Our girls checked out some of the vacation planning videos from Walt Disney World before our first trip with them. It is always nice to know before riding, for example, that Expedition Everest - Legend of the Forbidden Forest, goes backwards!

My girls also love to read about places before we visit. So, I downloaded some books online and checked some out from our local public library so that we could read about the parks. Even though we had to read to them at 5-years old, they listened intently, looked at all of the pictures and recognized some attractions as soon as we saw them in the parks.

Reba, you may want to download a printable map of your resort. This will help your son get familiar with the resort surroundings prior to the visit!

Magic, memories and Minnie Mouse hugs,
    Donyell
