Our family will be visiting in June and have decided to purchase disney gift cards to pay for meals instead of the dining plan(hoping to avoid eating un-needed desserts!) . Can my 11 year old order off of the children's menu at table service resturaunts

Hi, Jessica!  What a great idea to use gift cards!  That way you can keep track of your dining budget and your waist line at the same time!

I have to be honest and tell you that I've had experiences both ways at Walt Disney World table service dining experiences.  I have a 20 year old daughter that is not a big eater, and I myself have had gastric bypass surgery and eat smaller portions.  I sometimes look at the kids menu to accommodate my food needs as well as my daughter's.  In most cases, it has not been a problem to order from the children's menu.  Most of the restaurants make no comment, and the meals are delivered without a fuss.

There have been two instances (one at the San Angel Inn at EPCOT and once at The Hollywood Brown Derby at Disney's Hollywood Studios) where they pointed out that the children's menu is for younger guests.  The Brown Derby was very accommodating when I explained my medical issue, but the San Angel Inn for my daughter explained that she could order from the children's menu if there was a meal there she preferred, but they would prepare an adult sized portion of the meal for her.  We subsequently have eaten at the Brown Derby without incident, however, we have not attempted kids meals for adults at San Angel to see if the policy is still being enforced.

You can ask your server when you arrive for your meal, or just make the attempt to order.  Again, I've only had those two instances in all of my many meals at Walt Disney World.  The policy is for children under age nine, but Walt Disney World is really one of the most accommodating places I can think of.
