Hi, my family and I are visiting at the end of Oct beginning Nov 2012 from the UK. I like the look of the wild Africa trek at AK, can you give me some idea of what this is like and a guide to the price and best time to go. Thanks.

    Hi Sue,

I've had the good fortune of experiencing the Wild Africa Trek twice, once with a group of adult friends and once with my 11-year-old daughters. This is a three part adventure, lasting a total of about 3+ hours.

The first part of the Trek involved walking through some gentle woods backstage at the AK, then you move onto some fairly up-close-and-personal encounters with wild animals. While tethered to a safety harness, you get to watch hippos being fed and even lean over their habitat, while you speak to a keeper about the hippo habits. You then move to a series of high rope bridges where you walk over a crocodile enclosure. (Again, you have a safety harness on.) I found these experiences thrilling.

The second part of the Trek is in a jeep-type vehicle, similar to those on the Kilimanjaro Safari. The difference is that your vehicle can stop on the savanna, while the regular Safari vehicles do not. This allows you to get many more photos and learn about the animals from specially trained guides.

The third part of the Trek is a meal on a stage-like "Boma" on the middle of the savanna. You have about half an hour here to relax, eat DELICIOUS food, and take more photos.

It really feels like you're on an African safari, but without that pesky 15 hour plane ride to get there.

Prices for the Trek vary seasonally, and even sometimes by time of day. A ballpark rate is about $200 per person, but there is quite a bit of play in that number depending on when you go.

There are great photos and some video of the Trek via the link above. Additionally, you could Google search "Disney Wild Africa Trek" and find many independent Disney fan sites that have filmed and posted their Treks.

If you need more details about any of this, just let us know. We're happy to help.
