My family and I are visiting Disney for the first time and I am a little nervous about time. I am wondering how much time I should budget to get to and from the parks for lunch/dinner reservations if we are going to the Downtown Disney area to eat.

    Hi Heather,

Congratulations on your first trip to Walt Disney World. I'm so excited for you.

Walt Disney World is a large place, approximately 40 square miles. The travel time from place to place varies a great deal depending on where you start/finish, whether you are using Disney's free transportation or your own car, and what time of year you're visiting. In general, I would budget about 45 minutes to get from a theme park to Downtown Disney. However, in reality this could take you as few as 15 minutes or as long as an hour.

To help you make better estimates, I have two resources you may want to consult:

    - The OurLaughingPlace.com Transportation Wizard. The Transport Wizard gives you route options and estimates travel time based on these options.
    - The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World. Pages 388-389 of the 2012 edition gives a handy chart of WDW travel time estimates.

Good luck with your planning. Please let us know if you have additional questions.
