My family will be using our DVC points to go to Disney World at the end of May. If we purchase our park tickets now and a DVC member special for reduced park tickets becomes avaliable, will we be able to use that special?

    Hi Kathryn!

Welcome back to the Disney Parks Moms Panel, and thanks for bringing us your question! Your situation reminds me of the quandary I always find myself in with airlines tickets. I don't want to wait too late to purchase and have the price go up, but I also want to try to get the best value for my family.

Walt Disney World theme park tickets are non-refundable. This means if you purchased tickets now, and then a special deal became available for Members, you would not be able to return your tickets to receive the new discount. What you could do would be to purchase the new discounted tickets and use those for your upcoming trip, and then save the first set for your next trip. This might take a little bit of work making sure the correct tickets were linked in My Disney Experience, and while the current out of pocket cost would be higher, saving the non-discounted set of tickets for your next trip would be a value over the long term.

Since your trip isn’t until the end of May, you do have some time to wait to see if a deal becomes available. FastPass+ can be reserved 60 days in advance of your resort check-in date, so I would recommend having your tickets secured and linked in My Disney Experience a few days before your 60 day mark if you would like the best selection of FastPass+ experiences to choose from.

At this time, the only discount on Walt Disney World theme park tickets available to Members is on Annual Passes. For my family, purchasing the discounted Annual Passes, then scheduling our two trips within a year has worked out to be a better value than two separate sets of park tickets. You may want to price out this option out to see if it might work for your family's vacation habits.

    Happy Planning!
