My family will be traveling to WDW on Dec. 27, 2014. I was wondering about the best park for NYE. We want to get a good experience of NYE at Disney, but also the least crowed. What suggestions do you have? Also what specials are on New Years Day?

    Hi Acyle,

My family traveled to Walt Disney World for New Year's Eve last year.  We had a wonderful time!  Although the schedule of events for New Year's Eve this year at Walt Disney World has not yet been released, we can look to last year for an idea of what types of event might occur.

We chose to spend New Year's Eve at Disney's Hollywood Studios.  There were a lot of people there, but we found the crowds to be manageable.  We arrived in the afternoon and spent the afternoon and evening experiencing the attractions.  We made Disney's FastPass+ selections for that afternoon and evening, and I recommend that you do the same in order to experience some of your favorite attractions with shortened wait times.  At about 11:00 p.m., we headed over near to the Sorcerer Hat, where Mulch, Sweat, & Shears had been entertaining the crowd throughout the night.  They put on a wonderful, high-energy show, followed by fireworks.  By arriving at this location at 11:00 p.m., we were not right in front of the stage, but we could still find a place from which we could see very well.  We avoided the crowds by experiencing attractions until 11:00 p.m. and then heading to the show, where it seemed that most of the people were.  When we left there were crowds and it did take a while to return to our resort, but that is to be expected.

There were many other options at Walt Disney World for New Year's Eve last year - including a party at DisneyQuest Indoor Interactive theme park, and special fireworks at both Epcot and Magic Kingdom Park.  I suggest that you monitor the Disney Parks Blog for announcements of special events for New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.

I hope that these thoughts are helpful for you, Acyle.  Have a wonderful time planning your vacation, and please do not hesitate to ask if you have any further questions.
