    Joanne Asked

Hi! My family and I are traveling with our 6-month old to Disney World in January. We've been there a number of times, but never traveled with a little one! Any suggestions as to things to pack, fun activities, getting around the parks, etc.? Thank you

Hi Joanne! Traveling with a little one can be more challenging. The first bit of advice is to keep things as simple as possible. Try not to bring the entire nursery and try to not take too much into the parks each day. I have seen some families that have so much that they can hardly manage.

Ship things that are easy to send through the mail and have them arrive about 4 days before your arrival. Address them to you at the resort and include the name the reservation is in and also you arrival date.  We used to ship formula, disposable bottles, water, and diapers etc.

Choose a stroller that best fits your needs without it being a semi truck variety as you will find some walkways in the parks narrow and confining especially when you are using the mega sized vehicles.  You also need to remember that all strollers have to be folded to go on the buses  and the bigger is not necessarily better. Take one diaper bag with you with the immediate supplies for that day and be aware that each park has a baby center where you can feed, diaper, and purchase infant supplies if needed.

When packing remember layers for the little one as well. January can be nice and warm in the day when the sun comes out but the early mornings and evenings will be much cooler and even cold. Start with long legs and jackets and change as the weather changes. Sunscreen is important no matter what time of year.

Don't be too quick with the character experiences. Tread slowly and see if your child will accept meeting these unknown faces. Let your little one just enjoy the new sounds and sights and avoid dark attractions or those with big noises.

I think you will find plenty to do where you will all enjoy this first Disney experience. Make sure you get it all on video and photos!
