    Randi from MI Asked

My family is taking a trip to disney world in march and our 17 year old daughter has type 1 diabetes, this is her first time going with an insulin pump, are there any special accommodations to assist her?

    Hi Randi,

Welcome to Disney Parks Moms Panel. I have a relative that is diabetic too. If you are staying at one of the Disney´s Hotels, they all  have refrigerators that you can use to keep your insulin cool. There are, however, no freezers. If you have an ice pack to keep your insulin cold while you are in the Parks, every Bell Service Luggage area is equipped with a full size refrigerator with freezer. Just put your name on it and the Cast Members are more than willing to store it for you, and you can access the refrigerator 24 hours a day. Also, when you check into the hotel, call housekeeping at your hotel and they will give you a sharps jar/container and a disposable material device for your protection and theirs.  If you need to change an insulin pump infusion set, store your insulin, or dispose of a used hypodermic needle while in a Park, a First Aid Station is where you need to go.  Each theme park and water park has a First Aid facility:
Magic Kingdom – Between Casey’s Corner and the Crystal Palace.
Epcot – The Odyssey Center Building between Test Track and Mexico.
Disney's Hollywood Studios – Next to Guest Relations Building near the Main Entrance
Disney's Animal Kingdom – Behind Creature Comforts in Safari Village
Blizzard Beach – Near Entrance between Beach Haus and Lottawatta Lodge
Typhoon Lagoon – Next to Leaning Palms
As for the food, you will find some sugar free treats for your daughter in all the parks. At most of the table service restaurants, the chef can come to your table and offer a alternative for her and  he can provide nutritional facts like grams of carbs that each food contains. Bring syringes and extra medicine, blood strips and remember that if you need something there plenty drugstores nearby Disney area and also the concierge at your resort is always ready to help you.

    Have fun at WDW!
