My family will be taking our first trip to Disney Nov.'12. My son will be 4 and is not really into rides. He loves the pool & his Disney characters! Can you make suggestions regarding the best Disney Resort/ Hotel & attractions in this case?

    Hi Heather!

Since it is your first time coming to Walt Disney World, I would like to recommend that you pick up the book "The Complete Walt Disney World' by Julie and Mike Neal. It's a great book for first timers with just the right amount of information without being over whelming. It's also a beautiful book full of color photographs. It will give you a good idea of everything there is at the most magical place on Earth!

I wouldn't count out the rides. My wife is a good example. My wife doesn't like amusement parks at all, but she absolutely loves Walt Disney World. Most of the attractions are designed for the entire family; you can even bring a newborn on most of them! I know that sounds weird if your only experience is with regional amusement parks, but it's true! Walt Disney World Resort was designed with the whole family in mind!

The two best pools at Walt Disney World for young children are Stormalong Bay and the pool at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. Stormalong Bay is absolutely amazing; it's the pool shared by Disney's Beach and Yacht Clubs and it is a sand bottom pool! It even has a sand island surrounded by water than young guests absolutely love! We stayed there when my youngest was 5 years old and he never wanted to leave! The pool at the Animal Kingdom Lodge is not as good, but the Lodge itself is stunning. That's my son's favorite resort!

With regards to character interactions, all of the theme parks will have places to meet and greet the characters. Just be sure to pick up a Times Guide when you first enter the park for times and locations. Another great way to interact with the characters is via a Character Dining Experience. The characters then come by your table when you are dining!  Just be sure to make reservations as soon as possible; reservations can be made up to 180 days in advance.

Enjoy planning and write back if you have any more questions!
