    Toby from AR Asked

My family are staying at the WL this coming March. We have booked a barbeque over at FW. Is there a footpath connecting the WL and FW? If not, what is the suggested means of transportation between the two resorts? Thanks in advance.

    Toby:

The exercise/bike path between Wilderness Lodge and Fort Wilderness is about 3/4 to a mile depending on where you start measuring.  Typically, my husband and I will jog it, but if you walk it, I'd say it'd take about 15 to 20 minutes.  At times, the path has a lovely tree canopy, but then stretches of it look out over a clear-cut forest that is grown over with vegetation.  Don't expect for it to wind along
Bay Lake (on our first trip, we were disappointed).  Make sure to ask a cast member at the front desk where the path begins, because you'll need to cross the main road near the lodge's bus stop to access the path. You'll come out near the bus stop at Fort Wilderness.

You can also take the ferry that runs between the Contemporary resort, the fort, and the lodge. The ride will only be about 10 minutes as its first stop is Fort Wilderness before heading on to the Contemporary and back to the lodge again.

If the weather's nice, I'd walk to Mickey's Backyard Barbecue at Fort Wilderness--especially since the sun won't have set yet--and then take the ferry back to Wilderness Lodge afterward.  Just remember: the ferry will stop at the Contemporary first before Wilderness Lodge on the return journey.

    Wishing y'all a magical vacation!

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
