Mom With Kids After Run

    Sam from MI Asked

Hello my family and I are going to stay and Disney's Polynesian Resort June 30th through July 6th. its our first time kids are 6 and 4 also my 14 yr old niece is coming and I am kind of baffled on what to bring? I don't want to overdue it..

Hi, Sam! No need to be the poor, unfortunate soul at the airport with 60 pounds of luggage and a 50 pound limit. I have just the list you need to make sure you remember all the whozits and whatzits galore, while still leaving room in your luggage for the 20 thingamabobs you will end up purchasing during your trip.

Beyond the usual clothing and swimsuits (and maybe a mermaid fin!), be sure to pack plenty of sunscreen and some hats, as the Florida sun can be fierce. Grab all of your usual toiletries and medicine, but no big deal if you forget something. All of the Resort hotel gift shops stock many of the basic necessities. Do not forget your phone and tablet/computer chargers like I did once before! If your children are a little wary of the dark, you may want to pack a night light for your room. I always keep a printed copy of all confirmation numbers - hotel, rental car, Advanced Dining Reservations, FastPass+ selections, etc - in my bag at all times.

Speaking of bags, I highly recommend bringing a backpack to store your gadgets and gizmos aplenty while flipping your fins across the parks. In my backpack, I keep a change of clothes for the little kids in a large zip lock bag, autograph books and fat pens (perfect for our favorite large-handed characters to use), ponchos for those usual mid-afternoon rain showers, and mister fans to help everyone cool down.

If you are like me and need a printable list to help you remember everything, I found a great one online that is very similar to the one I have used for the past several years. Head to and search for "packing list." It is a great all-inclusive list, and you can easily strike out things you do not really need.

I hope you have a great trip to Walt Disney World Resort, Sam. I can't wait for your family to get here and become part of this world!
