If my family is spending the day at Hollywood Studios but have dining reservations at Epcot, do we need a park hopper pass?

The short answer to your question, Sharon, is yes.  Guests who plan to spend the majority of the day at one park and "hop" to another for dinner will need the park hopper option in order to so; dining reservations at a secondary park will not gain you theme park admission.  If you're traveling on a budget, you might find that it is best to schedule your meal reservations for the park you'll be spending the day in, or at a resort hotel.  Doing so would allow you to omit that costly park hopper option.  On the other hand, the park hopper does reduce limitations with regard to touring and dining.  If funds are not an issue and you'd like to keep your Hollywood Studios touring/Epcot dinner day as planned, then the park hopping option is the way to go.  I hope that clears things up for you.  Enjoy your trip!
