My family are very oudoorsy people. In our favorite places (after Disney) we do a lot of hikingin CA,CO,OR,WA,MT. From our hiking experiances and our trips to Disney World and Land, we have found that we get a lot of bilsters. Is there any special trick?

Hi, Jessica!  While I am not a doctor in real life, nor do I play a doctor on TV, I do have some serious blister experience!  My oldest daughter was a competitive Irish dancer, and with our many trips to Disney World, we've encountered quite a few blisters.

What works for our family is to be prepared.  We try never to go to the theme parks in brand new shoes.  If you are getting new shoes for an upcoming trip, do some walking in them ahead of time to break them in and make them comfortable.  I always make my girls wear socks, but breathable socks as opposed to the nylon variety.  If the shoes or socks get wet - either due to a rain storm or spontaneous puddle jumping - I make the kids take their shoes and socks off.

Another thing that we always have with us is moleskin.  Place it in your shoes where you would usually get blisters - on your heel or by your toes.  It's a nice cushion that keeps the shoe from rubbing on your foot.

Just in case all of your preventive measures don't prevent everything, keep a supply of band-aids and antiseptic handy, or check in at one of the first aid stations in the theme parks.

    Happy Hiking!
