We are a family of 5 (kids aged 13, 11 & 9) cruising on the Disney Dream to Bahamas in October 2017, what is the best dining option Early or late?

Welcome aboard, Emma! What an exciting cruise you have coming up! Families have their own preferences for early or late dining on the Disney Dream, but I'll tell you my family's preference and a bit more about both seatings.

My family and I have enjoyed both the main seating and the later seating, but we prefer the late seating. After a fun day in port exploring the island or relaxing on the beach, we like that we don't have to rush to be showered and changed for dinner right away, since main dining begins at 5:45. Instead, we have a bit more time to relax and get ready in our stateroom, and grab a snack by the pool deck or from the Complimentary Room Service menu. Then, we head down to the earlier Broadway-style show in the Walt Disney Theatre. After the show, we have time to see a variety act, get photos with our favorite Disney characters, play a round of mini golf, or do a little shopping before heading to dinner.

For kids in the Oceaneer Club and Lab, like your 9 and 11-year olds, the second seating only, offers Dine n' Play where children can be served first and counselors from the clubs arrive at the restaurants 45 minutes into the seating to pick up kids who want to go to the clubs. Parents then enjoy the rest of the meal on their own. It's the best of both worlds: family time and then adult time! Of course, your 11-year old and 13-year old can head to Edge, the tween club, at their leisure as well.

Main dining has great benefits for families too. Some families don't like to stay out late, so they prefer to eat dinner early, see a variety show or greet characters after dinner, then head to the later theatre show. It's really up to you, Emma, but I hope those details help you decide!

    Happy planning!
