My family of 3 are excited for a upcoming Alaskan cruise at the end of May. My daughter is 10. What is the dress code for the formal and semi-formal evenings? Thank you for your help!

    Ahoy, Jonna!

I'm so happy to hear your Disney Cruise Line vacation is right around the corner!

Whenever I'm asked a question regarding what to pack for a Disney Cruise, I feel the need to confess that I'm a reformed "overpacker". On our earliest cruises, I'd pack enough clothing options for a two-week itinerary, even if we were only sailing for four nights! Now that I've cruised with Disney, and understand what we actually need to bring, we have room left over in our bags to bring home fun souvenirs from our vacation. It's helpful to know Disney Cruise Line's dress code so we know what to expect.

Most evenings onboard will be "Cruise Casual", which means no swimwear or tank tops, and I recommend no casual shorts. I tend to wear what I'd wear out to dinner on a beach vacation, such as capri pants and a cute top, or maybe a sundress. My husband will usually wear nice shorts/jeans and a golf shirt.

Cruises that are five nights or longer will typically have at least two dress-up nights. If the dress code is Semi-Formal, ladies will be in anything from Sunday dresses to cocktail dresses, and men in slacks and jackets (ties are optional). On Formal Night, women will usually go a little dressier, with cocktail dresses being the norm. I don't usually see many ladies in full formal dresses (floor length), but there are always some that take it as an opportunity to go all out. It's really up to you! My husband brings a suit for Formal Night. We like to use Dress-Up evenings as a time to take advantage of the Onboard Photography Services and capture vacation memories of our family when we're all dressed up. Dress-Up nights are considered optional for guests, but I think I'd feel out of place if we didn't put in the effort to dress up and make the evenings special!

I hope this helps with your planning. Have a magical day! - Diane W.
