Hi my family and I are coming 7/27-8/3 my daughters are 16,14 and 5 the younger one has Autism I have booked a couple character dining any suggestions on what to do,where to go first, considerations for my autistic daughter?

    Hi Lisa,

Your trip is so close and I am so excited for you! My daughter has Aspergers but we have managed to have wonderful trips based on these tips. Of course we still had rough spots but they were minimized.

The one mistake we made was not telling our daughter we were going one trip. She likes knowing what is happening so it took a few days to get over the not knowing. If this is your daughter, have her help with the planning the trip. We always ask our daughters to pick three attractions each day they must do and stick to those at the minimum. This reduces disappointment. We also ask them for dining recommendations and make sure we have at least one favorite for each.

I would also skip purchasing the Park Hopper option. This would keep you in one park for the day and there is no pressure to go anywhere else. Your schedule is built around this park. Try eating a table service dinner in a resort outside the park you are touring as they tend to be less crowded and it gives you a break. This is especially true for Magic Kingdom.

Use technology including FastPasses and MyDisneyExperience. These will help reduce wait times. MyDisneyExperience is available on smartphones and tablets and WiFi is free throughout the Walt Disney World Resorts.

As for schedule, stick to your schedule as you would at home within reason. My family gets up early and are at the park within an hour of opening. However, we rarely close the parks at night and head home early. If we do close a park, we allow for extra sleep the next day. We also balance between big parks such as Epcot and Disney's Animal Kingdom and small parks like Disney's Hollywood Studios. This allows recovery time. We always do table service dinner.

Finally, we play games in the line to make waiting fun and bring snacks and drinks to pass the time. My girls are 16 and 14 and our plan has worked for 10 years.

    Wishing you a magical vacation!
