My family just booked our first Disney Cruise! My kids are ages 11, 8 and 4. Our cruise departs on November 3rd and will stop in Tortola, BVI and St. John, USVI. Will we need passports? They take 4-6 weeks to apply for and we’d be cutting it close.

    Ahoy, Malinda!

Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel! Congratulations on booking your first Disney Cruise Line adventure! You're going to love sailing the high seas with Captain Mickey and his friends! I can still remember the first time I stepped into the Lobby Atrium during my first Disney Cruise. Many cruises later, I still get the feeling of butterflies and excitement in my tummy stepping aboard the ship!

You've chosen a beautiful itinerary for your inaugural voyage! At this time, U.S. citizens setting sail aboard a Disney Cruise from a U.S. port of call, and returning to that same U.S. port of call, do not need a valid passport. The adults in your family will need a government-issued photo I.D. (like a driver's license) and a state-issued birth certificate. Since your kiddos are under the age of 16, they will just need copies of their state-issued birth certificates as their proof of citizenship! Prior to your upcoming cruise, definitely check out the Passports & Travel Documentation information found on Disney Cruise Line's website for the most up-to-date requirements!

Even though passports aren't required for all itineraries, Disney Cruise Line highly recommends traveling with them. It might be cutting it close for this upcoming cruise, but I recommend thinking about getting them for everyone in your pirate crew for the next voyage! (I just know you'll fall in love with cruising and schedule a second future cruise!)

Wishing you a magical inaugural voyage!
