Hello! My family will be arriving at WDW POR at about 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sep 24. I was considering dinner at Whispering Canyon Cafe', then mini golf or Epcot Illuminations. What would you recommend and can you give me an idea of travel times? TY!

    Hi Karie,

I love the idea of eating dinner at a resort restaurant the first night so that you do not have to use a ticket for part of the day. However, if you have a length of stay pass, this is not so much an issue.

Since you seem confident about your arrival time, I will base my answer on you flying into Orlando and using Magical Express. Whispering Canyon Cafe, my favorite restaurant, is located in the Wilderness Lodge. The food and atmosphere make it a great place to jumpstart your vacation. It is located at by the Magic Kingdom, and taking Disney transportation, you will need to take a bus to the Magic Kingdom and then a boat to the Wilderness Lodge.

After dinner to get to Epcot, you will need to head to Epcot via Disney transportation. If you are going to play mini golf at Fantasia Gardens, you need to get to the Boardwalk and then walk from there. You can then walk over to Epcot and watch Illuminations at 9:00 pm and then board a bus back to Port Orleans Riverside.

You will spend a lot of time traveling between resorts as the Disney transportation system is not designed to move guests between resorts. On a long day of traveling, I do not know if you want to add more.

I would recommend dinner at Boatwright's at Riverside and an evening of fun entertainment at River Roost or head to Downtown Disney via boat for dining and entertainment. Then you can head out on fresh legs in the morning.

Finally, if you have car, you can easily drive to all of these locations without an issue.

    Wishing you a magical vacation!
