Hi Faith! I am a beginner to running and in the UK. I would love to take part in a WDW 5/10k event next year. Is it really for all abilities? What are the rough dates races are announced? Planning will be key this end with flights/school/dvc!

Hello, Cerisa! Greetings from across the pond.

I also want to welcome you to the wonderful world of runDisney. I love hearing from guests who are ready to being their running fairytales with a little bit of Disney magic.

5K and 10K events held at Walt Disney World® Resort are great races to start with, especially the 5K as it is an untimed race. The 10K is timed and has a 16 minute mile required pace, which really is a brisk walk, making it an achievable goal for beginners as well.

There are three 5K events and two 10K events held at Walt Disney World® Resort each year and are as follows:
Walt Disney World® 5K and Walt Disney World® 10K  - held during Walt Disney World® Marathon Weekend presented by Cigna® at the beginning of January, with registration opening in April - *2016 is currently sold-out and no longer available.

Princess 5K and Enchanted 10K  - held during Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend near the end of February. This royal race goes on sale July 14th - 2016 dates are February 18-21. If this race suites your fancy, now is the perfect time to begin planning. I also recommend this race weekend as the perfect first race experience! It was mine :)

Mickey's Jingle Jungle 5K -  held during Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend in November of each year. Registration for 2016 will go on sale in February 2016.

I hope this helps get you started in your planning, Cerisa. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me with any additional questions you may have. I am here to help you plan a magical race-cation.
