DH and I have an extra day where we have nothing planned, and I was thinking about maybe doing to Wild Africa Trek, and was wondering if you could tell me what is the price, what is is like, and what is included? Thanks!

    Hi Jami -

I have now done the Wild Africa Trek twice - once with a group of adults and once with my 11-year-old twins. I have done several backstage tours at Walt Disney World and this is certainly one of the best. Pricing can change, but the current rate for this is $189 per person. You can make reservation by calling 407-WDW-TOUR.

The Trek starts out with some animal observation in the public areas of the Animal Kingdom's Africa - gorillas and meerkats. You then quickly make your way to non-public wooded terrain where, via an extremely safe harness system, you are allowed to step up to the very edge of the hippo habitat. Both times I've done this, the hippos were being fed by keepers, whom we were able to ask questions of. There's a bit more hiking and then you arrive at two rope and plank bridges that traverse the crocodile habitat. Again, you are safely harnessed. You walk directly over the crocs and observe them from every angle.

For the next segment of the tour, you board a jeep and move onto the Savanna. Unlike the standard Kilimanjaro Safari jeep, the Trek jeep is able to stop while you get a closer look at the animals with binoculars (provided). I got some awesome photos this way. The Trek then ends up at a stage-like platform in the middle of the Savanna where you are served a delicious meal.

The Trek also includes a certificate for a free PhotoPass CD ($149 value). You can use these for all your photos taken by photographers on the Trek as well as elsewhere in the parks.

I encourage you to search for Wild Africa Trek on the following blogs for more info, photos, and video: zannaland.com, insidethemagic.com, disneyfoodblog.com. And listen to the PassPorter podcast episode 57 (free on iTunes).

    Have fun!
