Can you explain the reason for the tip fee? Also, I've read in other posts that tipping is customary for certain services. Is this in addition to the tip fee? Can you clarify when and where tipping will be required?

    Ahoy, AnaRosa!

From the Disney Cruise Line website:

"It is customary to give gratuities in recognition of exceptional service, which you’ll receive in abundance aboard the ship. The following amounts are provided as a suggestion, but the gratuity you pay is always at your discretion:

    Per Guest per cruise          3-Night     4-Night     7-Night

    Dining Room Server             $12.00     $16.00     $28.00
    Dining Room Asst. Server    $9.00      $12.00      $21.00
    Dining Room Head Server   $3.00       $4.00        $7.00
    Stateroom Host/Hostess      $12.00      $16.00      $28.00"

You have the option of pre-paying your gratuities up to three days before you set sail on your Disney Cruise. This is the option that I usually choose, to avoid the onboard charge. We also often include extra cash inside the gratuity envelopes when we feel our service is particularly wonderful, which is almost always on a Disney Cruise.

Some other places where tipping is customary are room service and either of the adult-exclusive restaurants. If you decide to enjoy a Mickey premium ice cream bar in your room from room service, I recommend tipping $1 per item ordered. We bring singles for this purpose.

I hope this helps with your cruise planning. Please visit us here at the Disney Parks Moms Panel with more questions before you set sail.

    Happy Cruising, Tracy V.
