We are very excited about our trip this November! How beneficial is it staying right at a hotel where the monorail runs through it? I am trying to decide whether the cost is worth it. My daughter is eight and this is her first time to Disney. thanks,

    Heather,

It's hard to quantify what is 'worth it', since we all have different perspectives.  I have stayed both on and off the monorail, and I have enjoyed both.

The monorail makes life a lot easier when traveling to the Magic Kingdom.  It's also somewhat easier when going to Epcot, though you still have to travel to the Transportation and Ticket Center (TTC) and switch monorails to pickup the Epcot line.  However, you'll still have to grab a bus to reach the other parks and Downtown Disney.

In my experience, the three monorail resorts (Grand Floridian, Polynesian, Contemporary) appeal highly to people with small children.  The proximity to the Magic Kingdom (where those with little kids spend the majority of their time) and the fact that you can get there without folding up the strollers makes this very desirable.

Since your daughter is older and those things aren't factors, I would not base my decision on location alone.  I would look at all of the resorts and select the one where the themeing most appeals to your family.  We have 3 favorite Disney resorts and none of them are on the monorail!  The location is often nice, but it is not at all a make-or-break-your-vacation type of thing.  In fact, if convenience is your number one concern, I might argue that the Yacht and Beach Clubs and the Boardwalk are all more convenient options.  They allow you to walk to either Hollywood Studios or Epcot, and if you have park hopper tickets you can walk through Epcot and hop a monorail to the Magic Kingdom, thereby giving you access to 3 parks without stepping onto a bus.

    More confused now?  :)
