So excited for my son's first Disney trip - with me and his Grandma in mid November. We are celebrating his birthday and Grandma's retirement. We will be arriving mid day and do not have a pass for the parks Any recommendations on what to do /where to eat?

Hi Cynthia!  Your trip sounds like a great celebration for both your son and grandma!

I always suggest guests take a bit of the first day to explore their resort.  Each resort will have a shop, pool, other recreation, and some dining options.  You did not mention the resort you will be staying at but if you are close to the Magic Kingdom you can simply enjoy a ride on the monorail and stop at each of the resorts on the loop....Grand Floridian, Contemporary, and the Polynesian.  From there you could also take the monorail ride to EPCOT and back without ever going into the park.

If you are located near the Boardwalk area take some time to enjoy the shops and dining options in this area.

Downtown Disney is a great place to spend some time outside of the parks.  Between the shops and restaurants you can spend several hours just strolling through the area.  Your son might enjoy the small train ride or the carousel and most children enjoy the Lego area where they can actually build their own creations.  If you want to take more time Disney Quest is a great place for all ages to use their imagination and play various games.  For thrills take the helium balloon ride to get the best view of the entire property!
