What exactly is downtown disney and does it charge an admission price?

Downtown Disney is a major metropolis of shopping, entertainment and restaraunts located on Disney World Property. It is divided into three "sections", Marketplace, Pleasure Island, and Westside, that all connect down a pathway that stetches for blocks.

The Marketplace is a Disney shoppers extravaganza with numerous speciality shops like Once Upon a Toy, Lego Imagination Store, the new Design a Tee and the jackpot of Disney merchandising....World of Disney. The Marketplace is also home to restaraunts like Rainforest Cafe and the New T-Rex and don't worry, spots for yummy desserts at Goofy's Candy Company and Ghirardelli's.

Up until recently, Pleasure Island was the spot for nighttime fun at WDW, featuring unique bars and clubs. Disney has recently closed this area for refurbishment. It is unknown at this time what changes will be made to this area or when it will re-open. On our last trip, there were some speciality stores still open but those may also be closed by now.

Westside is the hub of entertainment for Downtown Disney. Here you will find the amazing Cirque du Soleil La Nouba. Westside is also home to an AMC theatre complex, speciality restaraunts, like House of Blues and Raglan Road, additional shopping and my sons' favorite Westside hangout, Disney Quest. Disney Quest is an indoor interactive gaming complex that lets you go into the games and battle pirates, fly with Aladin and much more.

There is no admission price to the Marketplace and some areas of Westside. You will need to purchase tickets for the LaNouba show and of course the movie theatre. Disney Quest may be included on your Magic your Way ticket otherwise a ticket can be purchased at the door.
